Checking accounts are the accounts you use primarily for everyday expenses, like the drug store, gas station, coffee shop, and movie theater. At credit unions, when you write a check (or “draft”), you spend your “shares,” hence the name Share Draft Checking! JHFCU’s special Student Checking account is free, with no per check charge, no minimum balance requirement, and no monthly fees. If your family members are also a part of the Credit Union, you can transfer money between accounts easily with cross-account access.*

When you open your account, you get one box of JHFCU-style checks free and a Visa Check card, which you can use to access your account at more than 26,000 ATMs nationwide without incurring a surcharge fee from the ATM owner. (see pages 7 & 8 for details about our ATM programs) If you don’t like using cash, you can also use your Check card to make purchases anywhere you see the Visa logo, and the amounts are debited directly from your checking account!
